Single Parent Getting After It

My theory is, I was allocated 15,000 alcoholic drinks at birth.

By the time I reached my early 40’s I had drunk them All. This meant my hangovers and recovery time after a binge session became painful and slow. My ability to parent, work and exercise was incredibly diminished.

Temperance/moderation didn’t exist in my life. The loss of time and fatigue after each bender was making me depressed. I decided to set a goal of 365 days and take a break from belting myself.

My mental toughness and discipline are incredibly high but I’m unable to stop drinking once I start, so today marks a year off starting.

365 days have passed without tasting a single beverage and it feels good to punt that big goal right over the black dot.

I’ve had some of the best times of my life inebriated. So fun. So funny. So memorable.

I’m also not saying that I will never drink again as I would like to believe I can be balanced, but for this moment, I’m riding the productivity wave of being a better dad and that is the primary driver.

What else do I feel has changed?

  • Improved physical health
  • Improved mental health
  • Enhanced mental clarity
  • Much Improved emotional well being
  • Better sleep and needing much less of it
  • Ridiculously stable moods
  • Probably saved a dollar or two along the way….
  • Productivity through the charts
  • Better communication with the kids – especially when I’m tired
  • Hopefully a positive influence on some people around me…..
